How to Keep Avast From Continuing to Charge Credit Card

The method for updating your payment details varies according to the authorized reseller that processed your Avast subscription purchase.

To verify which authorized reseller processed your purchase, check your order confirmation email or your billing statement. For more information, refer to the following article:

Update your payment details

You can update your payment details using one of the methods below:

  • Use your Avast Account
  • Contact Avast Support

Use your Avast Account

If necessary, perform any of the actions below before updating payment card details in your Avast Account:

  • If you do not have an Avast Account, you can create one with the email address you provided during the subscription purchase.
  • If you do not know the password for your Avast Account, you can reset it.

You can update the payment card details for a single subscription or for all of your Avast subscriptions via your Avast Account:

  1. Sign in to your Avast Account using the link below:
    • https://id.avast.com/sign-in
  2. Click the Subscriptions tile.
  3. Locate the subscription that you want to change the payment details for.

    If you do not see an Avast subscription, it is not yet linked to your Avast Account. You can optionally follow the instructions to add a missing subscription to your Avast Account.

  4. Click Update payment card in the box for the relevant subscription.

    If you want to update payment card details for all of your Avast subscriptions, click Update payment card in the box for any one of your subscriptions.

  5. Provide the information for the new payment card under Card details.
  6. If you want to use the new card details for all of your Avast subscriptions, tick the box next to Use this card for all subscription payments. If you only want to use the new card details for the selected subscription, leave this option unticked.
  7. Click Update payment card.
  8. If prompted, authorize the change via your bank or payment card provider. Then, click Close.

Your new payment details are now saved.

You are not immediately charged when you enter new payment card details. The new details are saved and you will be charged on the date shown next to Next charge.

Contact Avast Support

You can contact us by phone to update your payment details:

  1. Before contacting us, we recommend finding your Order ID. This allows us to easily identify your order. You can find your Order ID (sometimes called an Order Number or reference ID) in the order confirmation email that you received after the subscription purchase. For more information, refer to the following article:

  2. Open the Avast Support contact form using the link below:
    • Request help from Avast
  3. When prompted, select Phone as your preferred contact option.
  4. Contact us using the phone number that is displayed for your region. You can optionally click the flag to view the phone numbers for other available regions and select your preferred option.

You can update your payment details using one of the methods below:

  • Use the Avast Customer Portal
  • Contact Avast Support

Use the Avast Customer Portal

If you have already created a password to access the Avast Customer Portal, follow the steps below to update your payment details. If you have not yet created a password, follow the steps in both sections below to create a password before updating your payment details.

Create a password

  1. Open the order confirmation email that you received after the subscription purchase from no.reply@avast.com.
  2. Click the access your customer area link at the bottom of the email.
  3. Create a password that meets the listed criteria, enter your password again, then click Save changes.

Your password is now created and you are directed to the Avast Customer Portal, where you can update your payment details.


Update your payment details

  1. Access the Avast Customer Portal by clicking the relevant link below according to region.
    • USA | UK | Canada | EU | Brazil
  2. Enter the email address that you provided during the subscription purchase (this is also the email address where you received the order confirmation email). Additionally, enter your password, then click Sign in.
  3. Click Update Payment Details under Quick Links.
  4. In the Payment and Billing Details section, click Modify Payment Details.
  5. Select your preferred payment method, then follow the relevant instructions below:

Your new payment details are now saved. Your updated payment details are valid for all of your Avast subscriptions that appear in the Avast Customer Portal.

Do I need to update my details?

It is not always necessary to manually update your payment details for an Avast subscription.

When you receive a new credit/debit card because your previous card is lost or has expired, most card companies use account updater services to automatically update your payment details. This allows us to renew your subscription without you manually updating your details.

If we are unable to renew your subscription, we send you a notification email that explains how to update your payment details.

To verify if your credit/debit card company uses an account updater service, contact them directly or check their support pages.
